          About the numbers

          • Papers are OpenAlex works of type article, review, preprint, letter, conference paper or book chapter, by publication date. Datasets and other records are left out.
          • PubMed counts records added that day. Country counts search author affiliations, so a paper with authors in two countries counts for both.
          • Rankings use the newest day that is mostly indexed; the last day or two fill in over the following week.
          • Many journals give only a month, stored as the 1st — expect a spike on the 1st of each month.
          • Citation gains compare today's totals with yesterday's snapshot. OpenAlex doesn't refresh every count daily, so a gain can span several days.
